A champion for a better future in Labrador

Philip grew up in L’Anse au Loup and Forteau, close-knit communities in the Labrador Straits where hard work, helping your neighbours, and a connection to the land were part of everyday life. Those early values laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to Labrador, its people, its progress, and its future.

Philip has lived in Happy Valley–Goose Bay with his family for the past two decades. During that time, he’s built a career focused on delivering essential services to communities across the Big Land. His work in aviation first with Air Labrador and later as Vice President of Air Borealis, both Indigenous-owned airlines helped improve vital connections throughout Labrador and into Newfoundland and Quebec. He’s worked closely with Innu and Inuit communities, forming partnerships built on trust, respect, and shared goals.

With a deep understanding of Labrador’s economy, Philip has always focused on practical, community led development. He began his career supporting rural initiatives through Memorial University and local municipalities and went on to lead successful ventures in Indigenous business, telecommunications, logistics, IT, and the commercial fishing industries that matter to Labrador’s strength and self-reliance.

His experience has also contributed to provincial decision-making. Philip was appointed to the Premier’s Economic Recovery Team and served as a Commissioner with the Independent Appointments Commission, helping bring Labrador’s perspective into the broader conversations shaping Newfoundland and Labrador’s future.

Philip is a Paul Harris Fellow and active member of the Happy Valley–Goose Bay Rotary Club. He has served on the national Board of Directors for the Air Transport Association of Canada and remains a dedicated volunteer often giving back in ways that bring joy to even the furthest reaches of the region.

For Philip, Labrador isn’t just where he’s from, it’s who he is. And through every role he’s held, one thing has remained constant: a deep belief in Labrador’s people and a drive to see the region thrive as a proud, essential part of Canada’s future.
